Pearson Custom Current Transformers: From Datasheet to Installation

Custom current transformer documentation usually states output ratio, aperture and current range, but installation adds conditions that the datasheet cannot capture. Checking the two together shows whether a transformer suits a specific measuring point.

Aperture and conductor layout

The aperture determines how many conductors can pass through and where they sit in the window. An off-centre conductor, a nearby return path or incomplete shielding can change the output. A through-hole transformer must be fixed securely so vibration or maintenance does not move it.

Output and load

Output ratio, rated load and cable length need to be considered together. A change in load conditions changes the output relationship, and long cables pick up interference. Confirm the permitted load range and verify it in the actual configuration.

Insulation and maintenance

Installation space, insulation distance and service access are part of the site conditions. For high-voltage or high-current points, check creepage distance, fixing method and protection requirements as well; electrical ratings alone are not enough.

Record model, aperture, output ratio, load and mounting position so later replacement or comparison has a reference.
