Measurement task

Magnet power supplies and pulsed beams in high-energy physics facilities have different measurement objectives. The former often focus on current stability and feedback signals; the latter emphasize pulse shape, response speed and signal recording. When planning the chain, distinguish the measured quantity and timescale before selecting the sensor format.

Selection considerations

Stable-current measurement requires attention to drift, noise and output consistency. Pulse measurement requires rise time, pulse duration and low-frequency response to be considered together. Include aperture, connections and acquisition bandwidth in comparisons. Products can be associated with a common task without devices based on different principles being directly interchangeable.

Stable magnet current and beam pulses

Recording stable magnet supply current and observing beam pulses are not interchangeable tasks. The former emphasizes offset, noise and drift over time; the latter requires attention to usable rise time, pulse droop and pulse duration limits. Check the peak current, RMS current and current-time product limits of wideband current transformers separately, rather than reading only a maximum current figure.
